manekNya's first ever new line of shoes that would combine the rich, intricate patterns of batik with the shimmering beauty of beads. Everything that represents Peranakan: the Kebaya's batik sarong and the Beaded shoes. We imagined a shoe that would capture the essence of Peranakan culture and history, while also being fashionable and functional for everyday wear.
The team spent 8 months working on perfecting the design, carefully selecting the perfect shade of blue to represent the symbolic flower of Peranakan; Bunga Telang (Butterfly Pea) with deep hues found in batik fabrics. Each of the glass beads was handpicked, and hand-sewn it one by one ensuring that they would complement the pattern and add a touch of elegance and sparkle to the shoe.
Through detailed innovation, it became a reality. With a unique blend of batik & glass beads that was unlike anything else on the market. The blue fabric was soft and supple, with intricate patterns that seemed to dance across the surface. The glass beads shimmered in the light, catching the eye and drawing the viewer in for a closer look.
We hoped that it captured the essence of the culture, while also being stylish and comfortable to wear. BiruNya boasts a 4mm thick insole, specially crafted & tested for maximum comfort. This is a limited edition shoe and it symbolized a chance for us to share our love for batik and beads with the world, and to create something truly unique and special.

Every shoe's pattern will turn out slightly different from the photo due to variations in the batik cloth cutting. However, these differences are a unique part of the same material and cloth.
Care guide
Place shoes in a delicate bag (pro tip: a pillowcase works too). Always store your shoes in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or heat. This helps to prevent the colors from fading and the fabric from deteriorating.
Avoid wearing your shoes in harsh weather conditions such as heavy rain, snow or extreme heat. This can damage the fabric and cause the beads or embroidery to loosen.
To clean your shoes, gently brush off any dirt or dust with a soft-bristled brush. You can also use a damp cloth to wipe away any stains or marks. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners as they can damage the fabric and the beading or embroidery.
If your shoes get wet, allow them to air dry completely before wearing them again. Do not use a hair dryer or any other heat source to dry them as this can damage the fabric and the beads or embroidery.Be gentle
Be gentle when handling your shoes, especially when putting them on or taking them off. Avoid pulling or tugging at the beading or embroidery as it may come loose.

Our beautiful beads are hand-sewn by our highly skilled artisans from underrepresented communities who undergo months of training to master the art of Peranakan beading. On average, an Artisan spends 240 hours to perfect and learn the skill of beading.

Delivery
All shoes will be delivered within 2-6 weeks (depending on availability). Our shoes take a slightly longer time to produce as all are crafted traditionally by our highly skilled artisan & made by our own local shoemaker in Malaysia.
We also welcome you to visit our studio at Bangsar (by appointment only) to try on the shoes and have us take your foot measurements.
